The text came through
On the theme of Hands
It popped up
At Hands Cafe where I was
Having the perfect lemon meringue tart
With coffee
Then because of a question
How did you know about us
That started a conversation
Two sessions resulted
They were Try Poetry workshops
Facilitated at The Helping Hand
During the workshops
It was easy to tell I couldn’t count
While rap sealed rhyme for us all
And when I returned today
There were such bright smiles
When I got my food and drink
Through poetry
We know we extend a helping hand
So that we and our lives count better
There is no need to impress anyone
Through the written word
We get to express our hope
At Hands Cafe in twin cinema format

Jennifer Leong (Soy Avocado) created the DuaTresPentaStep poetic form which she attributes to divine inspiration. A Pushcart prize nominee, she co-founded the multi-disciplinary collaborative NoesisConverseNation, a fundraiser for Poetry Festival Singapore, of which she is part of the English SubCommittee. She is excited and grateful that her first poetry book, “Zero is Everything” will make its debut in Ireland in October 2026 and will be launched in Singapore at a later date.
