This song has been seven years in the making.

Back in 2018, I wrote a poem for aspiring medical students about what it truly means to be a doctor. No holds barred. No sugar coating. But also an explanation of why, despite everything, I remained one. I titled it “Don’t Be a Doctor.”

It struck a chord and was published in Internal Medicine journal in 2019—though retitled “So You Want to Be a Doctor” to avoid misunderstanding.

Fast forward to today. I’ve been experimenting with songwriting using AI: I write all the lyrics myself, then guide AI to create the music and vocals by setting the genre, tone, and pacing. One day it occurred to me—why not bring that old poem back to life as a song? The rhythm felt perfect for rap. And so “Don’t Be a Doctor” found its voice again, raw and unapologetic, just as I first intended.

To share it here, I put together a video with AI-generated visuals. But honestly, I think it’s best if you just listen—and let the words wash over you.

🎵 The track is also now available on Spotify and Apple Music, together with some of my other recent compositions.

I hope you enjoy it, and if it speaks to you, please share it—especially with healthcare professionals and those dreaming of becoming doctors.

Don’t get me wrong—I love my profession and would choose it again in a heartbeat. But anyone entering medicine should do so with eyes, minds, and hearts fully open.

Don’t be a Doctor… But do it anyway.
